Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has hosted the Southwest Governor’s Forum for an emergency meeting over the rising cases insecurity in the country and the alleged infiltration of the region by armed groups.
The governors converged at the Agodi Governor’s office in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, for the meeting on Monday.
The development is coming in the wake of recent surge in bandits and armed group attacks on several states across the country with the closest to the Southwest being the attack and abduction of 38 worshippers in Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke Isegun in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.
While both the Federal and Kwara state governments had yesterday confirmed the release of the kidnapped worshippers, the Southwest governors however travelled to Ibadan for the security meeting.
Present at the meeting were Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; his Ogun state counterpart, Dapo Abiodun, and Osun state’s Ademola Adeleke.
Also in attendance were Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, his Ondo counterpart, Lucky Aiyedatiwa; and the Seyi Makinde
As disclosed in a post shared on X, they are billed to review the ongoing collaborative security initiatives, including the Amotekun Security Network.
This according to the post is aimed toward enhancing capacity in the face of emerging challenges.
