Announces Top Scorers of 2025 UTME
- Safiu Kehinde
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has introduced a new score ranking system for its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
This was announced by the board at its ongoing policy meeting at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre. Abuja.
According to JAMB, the initiative which will commence at the 2026 UTME will see each candidate’s result slip include their national ranking among peers.
This is reportedly aimed at discouraging the celebration of high UTME scores in isolation and curbing the spread of fake scores.
“To curb the menace of celebrating top scorers of UTME, candidates’ ranking (position) will be indicated on the result slip for each candidate,” the board explained.
JAMB held that by publishing ranking information, candidates parading falsified scores would also be discouraged, and institutions would gain a clearer sense of the academic standing of each applicant.
It further noted that the initiative will assist institutions in better evaluating the quality of applicants and provide a standardised reference point across cohorts.
In the same development JAMB announced the top scorers of the 2025 UTME.
As disclosed by the board’s Registrar, Prof. Ish-aq Oloyede, Okeke Chinedu Christian from Anambra State polled the highest scores with 375 out of a maximum score of 400.
The top scorer picked the University of Lagos (UNILAG as his first choice with Mechanical Engineering as his course of study.
Trailing behind Okeke is Ayuba Simon-Peter John from Gombe State who polled 374.
