The National Grid has once again collapsed , plunging many Nigerians into darkness.
This was disclosed by the Nigeria National Grid via its official X handle, @NationalGridNg, on Wednesday.

NPO reports that this is the twelfth time in 2024, that the grid will be experiencing anther collapse.
NPO reports that the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority’s had earlier issued a directive to gas producers to cease supplying gas to indebted generation companies (GenCos).
NMDPRA stated that the substantial debts owed to producers had hindered their ability to sustain operations.
The federal government and some GenCos currently owe over N2 trillion in legacy debts to gas producers in Nigeria.
Following the grid collapse, some electricity distribution companies, have released statements, appealing to customers to bear with them and have assured of ongoing efforts to restore power.
The Head of Corporate Communications, Jos Electricity Distribution Company Dr. Friday Adakole Elijah, in a statement.
“The current outage being experienced within our franchise States is a result of loss of power supply from the national grid. The loss of power supply from the national grid occurred this afternoon at about 1333 hours of today, Wednesday, 11th
December 2024, hence the loss of power supply on all our feeders.”
“We hope to restore normal power supply to our esteemed customers as soon as the grid supply is restored back to normalcy.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding as we strive to serve you better.”
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company in its statement said;
“Kindly be informed there was a reported case of system disturbance on 11th November, 2024 at 13:32hrs which has resulted to a loss of power supply across our network.
“We are currently working with our partners as we hope for speedy restoration of the grid. We will keep you updated as soon as power supply is restored.”
The Ikeja Electric in a statement by its management wrote;
“Please be informed that we experienced a system outage today 11 December, 2024 at 13:32Hrs affecting supply within our network.
“Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders. Kindly bear with us.”
Similarly, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company assured of efforts to restore power.
“We wish to inform you that a system disturbance occurred on the national grid at 1:32pm today causing power outage across our franchise areas.
“While gradual restoration of power supply has commenced, be assured that we are coordinating closely with relevant stakeholders to restore power fully as soon as the grid is stabilized.”
