Detained former Head of IG Intelligence Unit of the Nigerian Police Force, DCP Abba Kyari, has said that if not for his detention, the Abuja-Kaduna train terrorists attack would not have happened.
His lawyer, Nurein Jimoh, while pleading for a review of his bail application which was earlier rejected by the court, said Kyari would have prevented such attacks and kidnappings from happening.
This was just as the lawyer made case for the transfer of his client from the same prison where some members of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra are detained.
He said it is dangerous and calculated move to have his client killed.
He said his life is at risk for sharing the same correctional facility with criminals that he put in jail.
“At the centre, the applicants who were head and deputy head of the Intelligence Response Team of the Nigeria Police Force met stiff resistance, attack and open threats to the lives of the applicants by series head (sic) of criminal gang that they had busted.
“There is no correctional centre that the criminals that have been arrested by the IRT under the headship of the applicant in furtherance of their constitutional and statutory duties as police officers cannot be found and there is a high likelihood of threat to the lives of the applicants.”
Kyari and others are answering charges bordering on drugs.
