A 34-year-old lady, Deborah Ayeni, who was behind the mysterious disappearance of a newborn baby in an Ekiti state hospital has admitted having stolen the child to avoid losing her United Kingdom-based boyfriend.
The suspect made the admittance while being interrogated by newsmen following her arrest.
NPO Reported the mysterious disappearance of a day-old baby at the Okeyimi Health Centre in Ado Ekiti, the state’s capital.
The incident which occurred on Sunday had led to the arrest of four suspects by the Ekiti State Police Command.
Ayeni who was the prime suspect eventually confessed to committing the crime.
As captured in a video shared on X Wednesday, Ayeni recounted how she had entered the hospital on Sunday and stayed over before leaving with the baby the following morning.
She disclosed that she abducted the baby in order not to lose her UK-based boyfriend who she was friend for before he travelled.
The suspect claimed to have lost the pregnancy around March this year.
Ayeni admitted that the fear of losing the man she was already engaged to had led her to abduct the baby in order to make him hers.
“Is because I want the baby. When I got to the hospital, I met them there and we were joking. So, in the morning I left with the baby.
“Before he left last year, he knows I was pregnant. I lost the pregnancy around March this year.
“I just want take him as mine. I was thinking maybe if I should tell my husband that I lost the pregnancy, maybe he will leave me.” Ayeni said.
