The Lagos State Government has secured the arrest of over 20 suspected hoodlums and miscreants harassing and terrorising motorists and commuters along the Lekki-Ajah.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile.
According to Akosile, the suspects were apprehended during an overnight raid by the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
Video attached to the statement showed the suspects who sat on the floor as the RRS paraded them shortly after their arrest.
They renowned for harassing and extorting motorists and commuters, particularly celebrities, living within the Lekki-Ajah axis.
Akosile reaffirmed the commitment of the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in working with the law enforcement agencies in getting rid of the miscreants off the street.
‘The Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has arrested a number of miscreants and hoodlums who have been terrorising motorists and commuters along the Lekki-Ajah axis.
‘In an overnight operation conducted by the RRS, the miscreants and hoodlums were specifically targeted after a careful investigation launched into their activities of harassment, extortion and acts of brigandage, which pose a lot of threat to the daily life of the residents of the Lekki-Ajah community.
‘The administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will continue to work closely with the law enforcement agencies to rid the state of miscreants, hoodlums and other societal misfits who may want to create atmosphere of fear and lawlessness in the state.’ The media aide wrote.
The arrest of the suspects is coming amid the growing trend of their activities along the aforementioned axis.
Several celebrities ranging from Nollywood actors, reality TV stars, and content creators, amongst others have fallen victims of the shenanigans.
Notable among the recent victims were content creators, Peller and Carter Efe, who shared videos of how the suspected hoodlums hanged on their vehicles while on motion as they demanded money from them.
Further eyeopener to the depth of the act occurred during Peller’s wedding where the hoodlums took to the road obstructing the movement of the wedding guests as they demanded money from them.
A livestream of the wedding captured moment one of the hoodlums got knocked down by a vehicle after he jumped on the bonnet of the car.
