The Lagos state government has declared indefinite closure Oko Oba abattoir at Agege area of the state over Poor hygiene and violation of environmental laws.
Tokunbo Wahab, the state’s Commissioner for Environmental and Water Resources, gave the directive during his inspection of the abattoir facility on Thursday.
As captured in a post shared on his X handle, Wahab, while addressing those in charge of the abattoir, expressed his concern over the unsanitary practices reported at the facility.
He decried the poor living condition of the workers at the facility.
“The government sent me here and I am just giving you a message.
“I am not going to mince words, we will shut it down fully until things are done in the right way,
“People cannot be sleeping in animal pens. It is not going to work. Let us try and do something right,
“When we shut it, somebody will sit down and think.” He said.
According to report, the closure of one of Lagos’ largest meat processing hubs is part of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration’s broader #ZeroToleranceLagos campaign, aimed at enforcing environmental compliance and safeguarding public health.
