The Lagos State Government has announced plan to deport the 396 beggars arrested within the state back to the respective states.
This was made known in a statement issued on Tuesday by the state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.
According to the Wahab, the beggars were apprehended by the Lagos State Environment Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) in ongoing effort to sanitise the state and curb illegal activities.
The commissioner said the beggars will undergo profiling with necessary assistance provided to them before being handed over to the relevant authorities for their deportation from the state.
“A total of 396 beggars were apprehended by operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps as part of the Lagos State Government’s sustained efforts to sanitize the state and curb illegal activities.
“The apprehended individuals will be profiled, provided with appropriate assistance where necessary, and handed over to the relevant authorities to facilitate their safe return to their respective states.” Wahab wrote.
The commissioner held that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining public order, protecting the environment, and ensuring a cleaner, safer, and more secure Lagos for all.
