The Lagos State Police Command has debunked allegations which suggests that male and female offenders are kept in one cell.
This was contained in an X post by the State’s Police Spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Monday.
NPO Reports that this is following a now viral video of an unidentified woman showing both male, females and even children all packed in a cell in Maroko police station.
According to her, they were arrested the previous night and they were told their offense was walking when they were on raid.
“Please you people should come to our aid, we are in Maroko Police Station.
“Yesterday night they picked us and arrested us, they said we can not walk that they are on raid.”
“They said i will go to prison for walking at night, this is too much for me to bear.” She said.
However, Hundeyin in his statement clarified that the area which they were held in the video is the holding area.
He stated that they are visible to officers on duty at the charge room (counter) and once they move into the cell properly, they will properly separated and will not even have their phones with them.
