Counsel to Mrs. Chioma Okoli the consumer involved in the “fake” tomato paste saga, Inibehe Effiong has threatened the chairman of Erisco Foods Limited, Chief Eric Umeofia with legal action for referring to him as a fake lawyer.
NPO Reports that Effiong has been at the centre of the legal defence of Mrs Okoli who was arrested at the behest of the company’s founder over her online review of the company’s tomato paste.
The customer had bought the product and later went online to complain of the quality and its salty content.
The company led by Umeofia had caused her arrested and vowed to ensure that she is jailed.
The police had also on a number of occasions besieged her residence in Lagos to arrest her over the matter.
Her matter has attracted both local and international media attention.
Many human rights organizations have called to an end to her intimidation.
Effiong in a post via his X handle on Tuesday said he is prepared to slug it out with the Erisco Foods boss over his derogatory comments on his person.
“Chief Eric Umeofia must present his evidence showing that I am a fake lawyer who was out to deceive my client.
“I spent five years in the University and one year in the Nigerian Law School before I was admitted into the Nigerian Bar.
“My ten years of experience as a lawyer has been threatened by the claims of Umeofia who referred to me as “a fake lawyer” and “a charge and bail lawyer”.
“I want justice.”
