The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Hakeem Owoade, has accused Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State of lying over his claims that he consulted three traditional rulers – the Alaafin, Olubadan Rasidi Ladoja and Soun Ghandi Adeoye- before the decision to make the chairmanship of the council of Obas rotational.
The Alaafin said that at no time did he and the other two royal fathers sat with the Governor to take a decision on the rotational chairmanship.
NPO Reports that Makinde, on Thursday announced Olubadan as the new chairman of the council with a mandate to serve for two years.
The Alaafin was absent at the ceremony to inaugurate the council at the House of Chiefs, Ibadan the state capital.
Reacting shortly after the pronouncement, Alaafin, through a statement signed by Bode Durojaiye, his spokesman, said the position of the palace and the entire people of Oyo has been sent to the Governor in an official memo.
“The attention of the Alaafin’s Palace has been drawn to a statement credited to His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde that he consulted with the three traditional rulers in the State, the Alaafin, the Olubadan and the Soun of Ogbomoso on the rotational Chairmanship of the State Council of Obas and Chiefs.
“The Palace hereby wants to state clearly that there was no time that His Imperial Majesty, the Alaafin of Oyo , Oba Engineer Abimbola Akeem Owoade 1, held any meeting with either the State Governor or any of the two traditional rulers mentioned above.
“Also the Alaafin did not tell the Governor or make a categorical statement on his endorsement of rotational Chairmanship among the the three traditional rulers in the State,” the statement said
NPO Reports that the development marks the beginning of a new wave of disagreements between the Alaafin and the Olubadan.
Recall that last week, a video had gone viral showing the Olubadan refusing to shake the Alaafin at a public event.
