Asks Force Spokesperson to Drive on Third Mainland Bridge, Pretend Car Breaks Down
- Safiu Kehinde
A Lagos-based man has challenged the state’s Police Command over its claim of the state being safe.
The Command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, had in a post on her X handle on Thursday declared the state safe while commenting on a post by an X user who raised alarm over robbery attack on unsuspecting commuters by a driver of ride-hailing app, In Drive.
According to the post, the driver identified as James Oluwatosin, was accused of orchestrating robbery attack on his passengers by pretending that his car broke down, leading to him parking while a gang of robbers attack the vehicle in the process.
Reacting to the post, Adebisi had urged concerned parties to reach out to the command while affirming that the state remains safe.
“The Lagos State Police Command is aware of the widely circulated post and is inviting the concerned parties to come forward. The parties may reach out to me via call or WhatsApp on 09055390070 for a direct link-up.
“Please note that the Lagos metropolis remains safe, and any security concerns can be promptly communicated to us for immediate action through our emergency lines.” She wrote.
Commenting on the police’s spokesperson’s post, the man, simply identified by his X handle as Oloye, refuted the safety claim as he challenged Abimbola for a drive along the Third Mainland Bridge by 7pm and pretend to have suffered a car breakdown.
He vowed to donate to the police retirement fund if they are not attacked on the bridge.
But in the case where they come under attack by hoodlums along the bridge, the Police spokesperson would be made to retract her statement on Lagos being safe and apologize to residents of the state.
“Dear SP Abimbola Adebisi,
“Here’s a challenge for you. If I’m wrong. I’ll donate to the police retirement fund. If I’m right, you’ll take this statement back and apologise to the people living in Lagos.
“Me and you will drive in the same car to 3MB at 7pm and pretend like our car has broken down.
“Let’s test how safe Lagos is.” He wrote.
Reacting to the challenge, Abimbola said the Third Mainland axis has been noted for adequate surveillance.
She however called on member of the public to also support and work with the Command.
“All the areas mentioned under this post are duly noted.
“Security is everybody’s responsibility, the Police cannot do it alone, that is why we always call out on the public to support and work with us.” The Lagos spokesperson replied.
