The Spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, has clarified that the man in a viral video that was seen been harassed by officials of the force, was apprehended over involvement in sales of drugs not for wearing dreadlocks.
Hundeyin cleared the air via an X post on Monday, in response to a post that accused some police officers of assaulting the individual for looking like a fraudster and wearing dreadlocks in Egbeda area of Lagos State.
According to Hundeyin, the suspect identified as Femi Imoleayo was arrested based on complaints residents about the activities of young men abusing and selling drugs openly.
He further revealed that the police swung into action and in their search, hard drugs was found on him.
“The suspect, Femi Imoleayo, was arrested at Bassey Street in the Egbeda area of Lagos State based on complaints from residents about the activities of young men abusing and selling drugs openly.
“The police responded and the young man was indeed caught with hard drugs. Due to his resistance and struggle, minimal force was used to subdue him.
“He alongside others arrested will be prosecuted accordingly.”
