The popular Lagos telecommunications devices market, Computer Village was Friday evening rocked by an explosion resulting in a number of people who were injured.
NPO Reports could not confirm whether there were dead victims, it was however gathered that the fate of those who were evacuated to the nearby Lagos State University Teaching Hospital was unknown.
While police said investigations had commenced to determine the real cause of the explosions, NPO Reports was told that the explosion happened from a nearby shop where CCTV cameras are sold.
Some other accounts said the explosion was an Explosive device which was mistakenly detonated.
The explosion had happened at a time most people at the Computer Village were closing for the day. The entire Kodesoh street and other adjoining streets and buildings were affected as the explosion ripped through then length of the area.
Confirming the incident in a statement issued by it spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos Police Command claimed five people were injured with the cause of the incident still remains largely unknown.
Hundeyin further disclosed that the scene of the incident has been taken over by operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit of the Command, The Mobile Police Detachment and Conventional Police team.
The Command’s Police Commissioner, Olohundare Jimoh, also visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment.
While urging residents to continue their lawful engagements and businesses, the Command reaffirmed its commitment in protection of lives and properties.
The statement read in part; “The Lagos State Police Command wishes to inform the public of an explosion that occurred this evening, 11th April 2025, at about 1835hrs, inside a CCTV camera dealer shop along Kodesho Street around Computer village, Ikeja, Lagos.
“The scene of the explosion and adjoining areas were immediately taken over and cordoned off by operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit of the Command, The Mobile Police Detachment and Conventional Police Teams. The scene was swept by the EOD Experts of command to ensure the safety of residents and facilitate a comprehensive investigation to determine the actual cause of the Explosion.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, arrived at the scene within minutes for an on-the-spot assessment. He has assured the public that the Command is fully on top of the situation and has urged residents of Lagos to remain calm and not to panic.
“While investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the explosion and other factors that might have caused the incident, the general public are enjoined to go about their lawful engagements and businesses peacefully without fear or apprehension, as the scene of the explosion and the adjoining area have been rendered safe and secured.
“Five (5) people inside and around the shop that sustained various degrees of injury have been rescued and swiftly recovered to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for medical attention.
“The Command hereby wishes to assure the general public of its commitment to to continue to maintain peace and security throughout the state.”
