“Osun State does not have 30 ministries to ever deserve 30 permanent secretaries. Besides the state does not have 30 vacancies for the PS portfolio.
Thirty new permanent secretaries were on Thursday announced by the administration of Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun.
The appointments were confirmed by the Head of Service, Dr. Felix Olowogboyega, who also announced that the newly appointed permanent secretaries would be sworn in at 4pm on Thursday (today). The announcement however created mixed reactions as the news filtered in among civil servants in the Abere Government secretariat Thursday afternoon as many felt the Governor elect, Senator Ademola Adeleke, might reverse the decision to appoint the new senior public officers.
Baring any unforeseen development, the tenure of Oyetola is expected to end on November 27, 2022, three days from today.
One of those newly appointed who spoke with the NPO Reports on condition of anonimity said though some of those on the list have been due for the promotion for some time now, the fact that the governor approved it few days to the end of his tenure makes it unreliable. “Yes, I have been qualified for this many years now. But I am not thrilled because we are not sure what will become of this by the time the new Governor takes over on November 27th,” the newly appointed Permanent Secretary said.
Reacting to the development, a loyalist of the Governor-elect and a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Akintunde Bello Sherif, wrote on his social media page on Thursday, “In continuation of his arbitrary agenda to suffocate the State after his inglorious departure officially in few days time, Oyetola as seen in this evil memo of no conscience has penciled down 30 political civil servants including mistresses for appointment as permanent secretaries and their laughable swearing takes place this afternoon.
“Osun State does not have 30 ministries to ever deserve 30 permanent secretaries. Besides the state does not have 30 vacancies for the PS portfolio. Among those contained on the list authorized by the Head of Service are some ineligible level 15 officers or below. A level 15 officer as a permanent secretary is a bizarre to the rules especially when there are people on grade level 17 that are still in service but are not considered.
“The only thing that qualifies the bunch of ceremonial permanent secretaries is their loyalty to the APC. Oyetola is leaving behind a legacy of ruins on the state civil service.”
