Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have arrested a 93-year-old man and a 69-year-old medical doctor.
The arrest follows intelligence-led raids targeting drug traffickers and their networks.
The 93-year-old suspect, Friday Ahukanna Chigbu, was arrested at his home in Umuagbaigba, Amavo Nkwogu village, Osisioma local government area of Abia state on Tuesday 7th April 2026.
A search of his residence led to the recovery of 7.7 kilograms of skunk, a strain of cannabis. The suspect claimed he had worked as a truck pusher but later learnt painting and tiling before going into the illicit drug business over a year ago. He claimed he had been smoking skunk since 1959 before turning it into business.
At the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano, NDLEA officers arrested a 41-year-old Ivorian man, Gohouri Michael. He was carrying 82 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.49 kilograms.
The suspect was about to board a flight to Milan. NDLEA said he had travelled through Lagos and Enugu before moving to Kano, where he ingested the drugs.
He was expected to receive 5,000 euros after delivery.
Further investigation led to the arrest of a 69-year-old doctor, Chudi Daniel Ofomata, in Ogun State. NDLEA said he helped coordinate the drug movement.
He was arrested at his home in Magboro. Officers recovered drugs including promazepam and promethazine injection.
In Ogun State, NDLEA arrested three suspects with 34 kilograms of skunk in Sango Ota.
In Imo State, officers arrested a 26-year-old woman with 56.2 kilograms of the same substance.
In Niger State, a couple was arrested after officers found 118 kilograms of skunk in their home.
In Borno State, NDLEA officers stopped a trailer carrying drugs hidden among spare parts. They recovered Rohypnol tablets, codeine syrup, and pentazocine injection. The owner of the shipment was later arrested.
In Lagos, officers stopped a commercial bus on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. They found 15 kilograms of a strong cannabis strain known as Scottish Loud. Two suspects were arrested.
In another operation in Lagos, NDLEA seized 26,800 bottles of codeine syrup from a truck heading to Onitsha. Two suspects were arrested.
In Abuja, officers raided a drug spot and arrested eight suspects. They recovered over 11 kilograms of skunk.
In Edo State, NDLEA intercepted two trucks carrying 7,245 kilograms of skunk hidden among cartons of beer. Five suspects were arrested.
The agency said the drugs were loaded in Owan West and were on the way to Abuja.
