The Nigerian Football Federation on Tuesday named a former International Finidi George as the new acting coach of the Super Eagles.
52-year-old, Finidi becomes the fifth player from the 1994 AFCON winning squad to coach the Super Eagles.
Others who had coached the Eagles include late Stephen Keshi, Samson Siasia, Sunday Oliseh and Austin Eguavoen.
Finidi scored 6 goals in 62 appearances in his 31-year international career.
He is expected to handle the Super Eagles in their friendly encounters against the Black Stars of Ghana and the Eagles of Mali.
The former Ajax Amsterdam, Real Betis and Ipswich town player scored on his debut for the Super Eagles in Nigeria’s 7-1 win against Burkina Faso in the second leg of AFCON 92 qualifier at the National Stadium in Lagos on July 27 1991.
His goal in the encounter sealed victory for Nigeria while also making all four assists for goal king Rashidi Yekini.
Finidi who currently is the manager of two-time CAF Champions League winners, Enyimba FC of Aba held his first meeting with team officials earlier on Tuesday, March 19.
