The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa has reminded protesters in the country that Nigeria is not the only country where the rising cost of living is biting hard.
Musa said the Defence apparatus in the country has been very civil amidst the current nationwide protests, adding that protesters must however not abuse the understanding shown by the military.
He spoke with journalists in Abuja on Friday as part of media review of the protests nationwide and its impact.
NPO Reports that there have been violence in Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, Niger, Yobe, Gombe, Katsina and Gombe states.
Many have also been arrested while some people were killed.
While stating Federal Government’s relentless effort in improving the country’s economy, Christopher Musa urged Nigerians to understand the government and steer clear of destruction of government property.
His words, ” We want to appeal to Nigerians to understand that the FG is doing the best they can for the country. The present regime is just there in less than one year. And it is not possible for them to solve every financial and economic situation in one year.
“Things are improving. We are not where we are yesterday. I can assure you we are heading there. If we can the support of everyone together, we can bring total peace and our economy will pick up.
Some few days, I was in the Niger Delta to ensure that our oil production increases immediately so that we can have enough funds for the economy.
“We want to call on all Nigerians to understand with the government.
“It is not only in Nigeria alone. Everywhere in the world is facing one economic or security crisis or the other. It is important to know that we are not alone.
“But what we can do is not to allow criminals or individuals that have lost out to take advantage of the this to destroy our country.
“We should realize that money for development will have to be used to repair these things so that we can move forward. Instead of doing that, we should come together; make sure nothing is destroyed. The message has already been passed to the Federal Government, State Government, and Local Governments.”
