The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani has sparked outrage on social media with his comment on being the first minister in history to give weekly updates on activities.
NPO reports that Tijani made the assertion while speaking in an interview with Arise TV on Thursday.
“I want people to pay attention because I communicate extensively.
“I’m probably the first minister in the history of Nigeria that gives a weekly report on its own activities. This is a fact
“We want people to follow our efforts because we know the President is extremely keen on driving Nigeria’s economy to become that $1 trillion economy.”
Tijani further remarked that the only way to meet up with such target is to create jobs to meet the needs of the people
“This is the only way we can create the jobs to meet the needs of our people, the president is very aware that this is a country that is having 5 million new people every year.
“So when we’re saying our population is projected to be about half a billion by 2050 that’s a fact, the numbers are there but for us to truly serve these people, we must grow an economy that can offer good job opportunities for the young people but also ensure the infrastructure to back that development is there.”
His remark has therefore raised questions with many disputing his statement of being the first minister to give weekly reports.
A Digital Meia Consultant, Ola, @Ekitiketekan countered his statement saying, “Hon Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo started weekly and monthly report graphics and videos, ask around. He is still giving till today. He even added interior minister weekly report.”
@gabriel_bolatit said, “You did update for just few days since them nothing. You are a square peg in a round hole. Unfortunately you make Patani an hero in that Ministry.”
@suleiman_qasim wrote, “Olodo! Update with no progress on ground! Ascribed minister! Check ur predecessor records while he was in office! Failure”
@Sistaliano commented, “I still don’t know how you escaped being sacked when President Tinubu reshuffled his cabinet. You criticized the government, and then you were appointed to fix what you condemned, here you are, you’ve failed woefully.”
@TanimolaOmotayo remarked, “I don’t think I have ever come across any weekly update from your office. If e dey, evidence for plenty”
@hichiefK queried “To what end? Of what use is weekly reports on power point with no tangible impact in a sector that is supposed to lead us to the next digital transformation.”
@Sage07X said, “Underperforming minister… No innovations and no support for the tech ecosystem.
“Maybe we expected much from him”
@kadetumi wrote, “With nothing to show for the report. Wike through @OlayinkaLere has even been giving daily and all Nigerians can empirically see the work everywhere and policies materializing. Bosun buckle up please.”
