Nigerians feel Teni Akpata’s conduct after collecting her award fell short of expectations
Popular Nigerian Singer, Teniola Apata, fondly known as Teni the Entertainer has left tongues wagging on social media over video which shows her demanour on receiving her award.
The President, Muhamadu Buhari had on Tuesday conferred the singer with a national honor of the Member of the Order of The Niger in Abuja.
A viral video from the occasion has shown how she received her award “coldly” and walked off with a stern face.
The clip has however sparked various criticisms, debates and praises online from Nigerians with some accusing her of being disrespectful to the President and his office while some insist she has done out of the ordinary.
Chief Sasakosa, @SasakosaChief said,
“That’s rude no matter what or how bad the president is, Buhari remains Nigeria president… she has to show that respect”
Chiamaka, @Ribaku added,
“This was absolutely disrespectful, BTW, I thought Teni is a yoruba girl, and they have a culture of respect for elders. I can’t believe some of you are applauding her. This is unneccessary display of arrogance.”
Nigerian Writer, JJ Omojuwa, @Omojuwa stated,
“I watched that Teni video several times, desperate to see when she disrespected the president, yet to see it. I must be watching the wrong videos. Social media’s capacity to create a false reality is unprecedented. Narratives are now more powerful than what people see.”
“I don’t think Teni did anything wrong, she smiled while receiving the award and the president didn’t stretch hand to shake her (probably because she’s a woman) neither. There was no weird energy between both of them. Showing up for the award is enough respect.” @itzbasito remarked.
Demola of Lagos, @OmoGbajaBiamila, commented,
“If the President had stretched out his hand for a handshake and Teni saw it but ignored, then you just might have a teeny-weeny case of disrespect here.”
“Anything else is just you trying to fulfill your Internet Rage Quota – IRQ for the week. And that, is also constitutional”
Persian Queen, @teeana_world said,
“Teni disrespected our president and you all are praising her for such unruly behavior?”
Olu, @oodusanya02 added,
“She is so disappointing . No respect or whatsoever and she is Yoruba . Even madam okonjo bow and heand of service went down likewise the surpreme court justices they bow before the president .”
