There are no indications that electricity distribution companies will return power immediately with the suspension of the nationwide strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress.
Many Nigerians who have been in darkness since the forceful shutting down of the national grid midnight Sunday, had expected that electricity would return immediately the suspension of the strike was announced.
NPO Reports gathered from reliable sources that the distribution companies are awaiting the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to restart the national grid before anything else. The source who is familiar with the operations told the NPO Reports that “The generating companies and Transmission Company will have to first restart the grid.
“Once that is done and electricity is dispatched to our distribution stations, then we can restore supply to all our customers.
“There are no specific timelines yet. We will update as events unfold.” Though the nation had witnessed poor power supply as a result of poor infrastructure across the country, the nationwide strike embarked upon by workers had worsened the situation in the last 48 hours. The organised labour had vowed to cripple the country unless the Federal Government yielded to its demand for N494,000 minimum wage.
The government had offered N60,000 as minimum wage, one that is under contention.
