President Bola Tinubu has appealed to those planning to stage nationwide protests over the worsening economic situation in the country to drop the idea.
Saying that protests can not solve current problems, the president said he listens to Nigerians and can feel their pains.
The president spoke through his Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
The minister, after a meeting with Tinubu on Tuesday quoted the President as saying that he fully identifies with the pains of Nigerians.
He spoke with State House Correspondent after the meeting.
He said, “On the issue of the planned protest, Mr. President does not see any need for that. He asked them to shelve that plan and he has asked them to await government’s response to all their pleas.
“So, there is no need for strike. The young people out there should listen to the President and allow the President more time to see to the realisation of all the goodies he has for them.”
NPO Reports that many individuals and groups have vowed to commence a nationwide protests on August 1 to register their protests over the current state of the economy.
NPO Reports also that the economy has witnessed a massive and rapid downturn since the removal of the fuel subsidy on May 29, last year during the inauguration of Tinubu.
The removal of the subsidy has precipitated a wave of economic crisis leading to higher cost of transportation, food inflation and general hikes in costs of services like electricity and others.
