Samson Itodo, the convener of #NotTooYoungToRun campaign, has faulted the conduct of local government elections in Nigeria.
This is coming under the heels of the just concluded council election in Lagos State.
The election, which recorded low turnout of voters and logistics challenge amongst others, was held across the state on Saturday.
Reacting to the electoral conduct in a post on his X handle, Itodo held that the council elections in Nigeria remain a travesty of electoral democracy.
“Local government elections in #Nigeria remain a travesty of electoral democracy.” Itodo wrote.
However, aside the voters apathy observed across polling units, the Lagos LG Election was peaceful as declared by the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Olohundare Jimoh, and confirmed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The Saturday poll was devoid of the violent attacks and ballot box snatching which had long become a feature of Nigerian elections at all levels.
This could however not be said of voters buying which was reported in some polling units.
