The Ogun State Government has commenced oil exploration activities on Eba Island following approval by the Federal Government.
The FG was reported to have granted the state government a Frontier Exploration Status through the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources. which gave way for active oil exploration activities on Eba Island.
This was made known in a statement issued on Wednesday by the state governor, Dapo Abiodun.
The governor, in the statement shared on his X handle, civil work has commenced at the site following the completion of all necessary assessments, surveys, and approvals.
“Significant progress has already been recorded, with the successful completion of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), as well as the Bathymetric, Topographical and Geotechnical Surveys.
“We have also secured all the necessary statutory approvals from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the Federal Ministry of Environment.
“Civil works have commenced, while well intervention/re-entry equipment is already on site, marking another important milestone in our efforts to unlock the hydrocarbon potential of our frontier acreage.” Abiodun wrote.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to harnessing the resources in creating job opportunities and generate sustainable income amongst others for Ogun state.
“We remain committed to harnessing these resources responsibly to create jobs, attract investment, generate sustainable revenue, and position Ogun State as a leading player in Nigeria’s energy sector.
“As this historic initiative progresses, we will continue to keep our people informed every step of the way.” He added.
