The Ondo State House of Assembly has summoned the leadership of Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) and Amotekun Corps over reported vandalism of state-owned power plants.
Speaker, Chief Olamide Oladiji, disclosed this during Thursday’s plenary in Akure, expressing concern over repeated incidents affecting electricity infrastructure.
Oladiji said reports indicated destruction of government-built power facilities, stressing the need to investigate and restore order to ensure stable electricity supply.
He directed Amotekun Commander, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, Energy Commissioner, Mr Johnson Alabi, and BEDC’s regional head to appear before the Assembly on April 16.
The Speaker said the Assembly, as representatives of the people, must address vandalism decisively to protect public assets and maintain essential services.
Meanwhile, the House passed a bill converting Owena Press Ltd. into the Ondo State Printing and Publishing Corporation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Owena Press Ltd. is a state-owned printing outfit established over three decades ago.
Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Mr Olatunji Fabiyi, said the bill received unanimous support from committee members.
Fabiyi, presenting the report, recommended a management board to oversee policy direction and general administration of the corporation.
He said the board would include a chairman or Editor-in-Chief, two part-time members, an editor, and a senior administrative manager.
According to him, the chairman must be a seasoned media professional with proven excellence in journalism.
The House also passed a bill amending the Ondo State Electric Power Sector Law, 2020. NAN
