A coalition of opposition parties on Tuesday have accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of sponsoring an attack on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat in Abuja.
They alleged that thugs loyal to the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, stormed the premises and assaulted staff and journalists.
According to eyewitness, over 60 individuals breached security at the Wadata Plaza headquarters, damaging office equipment and attacking personnel.
At least seven staff members were said to have sustained injuries ranging from fractures to concussions, while several journalists covering the party leadership crisis were allegedly assaulted and had their equipment destroyed.
Party insiders claimed the attack was aimed at escalating internal conflicts and weakening the PDP ahead of the 2026–2027 election cycle.
The coalition linked the incident to recent attempts by a faction led by PDP National Vice-Chairman (North-Central), Mohammed Abdulrahman, to suspend Acting National Chairman, Umar Iliya Damagum.
It further alleged that the operation had backing from senior APC figures.
“Wike’s hands are deeply stained in this APC-orchestrated pogrom,” stated a PDP NWC source. “What began as internal wrangling has morphed into a full-scale siege on opposition survival, courtesy of the Tinubu regime’s desperation to maintain its iron grip.”
The opposition leaders cited previous reports of harassment against members of other parties in Lagos, Kano, and Enugu, describing the Abuja incident as part of a wider pattern of intimidation.
The coalition views this as part of a broader pattern of state-sponsored intimidation targeting opposition strongholds.
Recent incidents include harassment of LP rallies in Lagos, surveillance of NNPP leaders in Kano, and SDP offices raided in Enugu—all traced to APC-aligned vigilante groups.
“Nigeria’s democracy is bleeding under APC’s authoritarian playbook. “Wike, once a PDP colossus, now serves as the APC’s enforcer, deploying thugs to fracture and frighten us.
“We will not cower; this is a clarion call for all democrats to unite against tyranny.”
