Several political stakeholders in Osun State have expressed their displeasure over the administration of the state’s Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Gotan, as he was booed during the stakeholders meeting with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC had on Wednesday organised the meeting with all stakeholders in the state ahead on of the August 15 Governorship Election.
Videos circulating on social media showed several stakeholders present at the hall protesting against the presence of Gotan at the meeting.
This is coming amid several allegations of partisanship in the operation of the Osun Police Command under his leadership.
The police had widely been accused of working with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and conspiring with sponsored hoodlums perpetrating violence and unrest across the state.
Notable among the allegations was the recent attack on MayFair Motor Park which was stormed by armed hoodlums on Sunday days after the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, ordered ban on the activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
Videos shared on X showed moment the hoodlums arrived at the park with a police van spotted behind the vehicle that conveyed the hoodlums who opened fire in the air on arrival.
While the police had since denied any form of conspiration with the hoodlums as they claimed to have arrived at the scene to de-escalate the situation, the alleged raid of the residences of the Secretary to the State Government and six commissioners before the stakeholders meeting yesterday had further contributed to the mistrust of the stakeholders to the police which is suspected to have prompted their reaction against the commissioner.
