Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has suffered defeat at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Oyo Governorship Primaries as Sen. Sharafadeen Alli emerged as party’s candidate for the 2027 Gubernatorial Election.
Adelabu who had last month stepped down from his role as minister in pursuit of his governorship election was defeated by wide margin at the primaries held on Thursday.
Alli reportedly swept the poll with 578,143 votes with Sen. Abdulfatai Buhari polling 37,265 votes, while Adelabu only managed to garner 19,193 votes.
Though yet to be officially confirmed as at the time of filing this report, the outcome of the primary had sparked celebrations among supporters of the APC chieftain.
According to reports, prominent businessman and Okanlomo Oodua/Bada Olubadan, Dotun Sanusi, described the victory as a reflection of the confidence reposed in Alli’s leadership and vision for Oyo State.
Meanwhile, the results of the election largely remain controversial as some reports alleged the Adelabu won the poll.
Also subject of controversy is the total number of registered voters for the APC primaries in the state with claims that the total number of registered voters is 153,641.
This put to question the emergence of Alli as the winner with 578,143 votes.
