The Oyo State Police Command has arrested five suspects in raid on criminal syndicate in the state.
This was made known in a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka.
According to Ayanlade, the suspects were apprehended on Friday following a raid on their hideout in Gbeku Area of Ibadan.
“On the 12th of June, 2026, at about 0100hrs, operatives of the Command, acting on credible intelligence and in furtherance of ongoing intelligence-led operations against violent crimes, stormed the residence of one Surajudeen Babatunde Adio, popularly known as “Surii Ilupeju”, located at Gbeku Area, Olodo, Ibadan.” The police spokesperson wrote
The five apprehended suspected members of the criminal syndicate include Ahmed Nafiu (43 years), Olukunmi Olaniyi (36 years), Femi Odeyinde, (53 years), Jelili Akinade (50 years), and Muhideen Adio (27 years).
A thorough search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of one pump-action gun, one single-barrel cut-to-size gun, and eight live cartridges;
Also recovered during the operation are one native bullet-proof vest, two bottles of suspected charm-induced syrup, and assorted Charms amongst other incriminating items.
Ayanlade said the suspects are currently in custody while discreet investigations are ongoing to ascertain the full extent of their involvement in criminal activities and to apprehend other members of the syndicate who may still be at large.
In reaction, the Oyo Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji, Olugbenga, reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating armed robbery, cultism, kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
He further assures residents that intelligence-led operations and targeted raids of identified criminal hideouts will continue until all criminal elements are brought to justice.
The Command urged members of the public to continue to support the Police with timely and credible information, assuring that all information received will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
