Brazilian female football team has on Tuesday defeated Spain to seal gold medal with the United States of America.
The Samba girls proved a hard nut to crack for high-flying World Champion, Spain at the semi-final of the Olympics female football category.
Despite their dominance, Spain fell to the pressure of the Brazilians as Irene Paredes’ own goal gave the Brazilians an early lead.
The lead would, however, be doubled by Brazilian striker, Gabi Porthilo, before the end of the first half.
As Spain failed to convert their chances in the early minutes of the second half, Brazilian substitute added one more goal to the tally in the 75th minute.
However, Spain managed to pull one back to reduce the deficit to 3-1 courtesy Duda Sampalo’s own goal.
While searching for another goal, a defensive error from Spain gifted Brazilian winger, Kerolin, a goal scoring opportunity which she converted to bring the scoreboard to 4-1.
Meanwhile, FC Barcelona Femeni winger, Salma Paralluelo, managed to score yet another goal for Spain bringing the tally to 4-2.
Unfortunately, it was too late for Spain to revive themselves as the referee blows the final whistle.
Brazil’s victory will see them face the USA in a fight for Olympic gold medal in the final.
The United States led by former Chelsea manager, Emma Hayes, has earlier defeated Germany to advance to the final as their quest for gold continues.
