Pastor of the Later Rain Assembly (now called the Citadel Global Community Church) Tunde Bakare, has joined the presidential race.
He was the running mate to President Muhammadu Buhari when he contested for the presidency in 2011.
He unveiled his ambition during a virtual programme tagged ‘Unveiling Project 16 to Nigerians in diaspora’ event tagged “The portrait is a new Nigeria”
He described the present crop of leaders as “cake eaters” saying he intends to raise a body of “cake bakers” for Nigerians.
He said the Nigerian current situation calls for concerns.

Saying that “This situation calls for a certain kind of leader,” the Cleric noted his intervention is “A mission of a new Nigeria and honest aspiration to serve as a 16th president of my beloved nation, Nigeria,”
He added, “I understand that part of God’s purpose for Nigeria is the actualisation of the idea that Muslims and Christians, the north and the south can come together as one great nation.
“As a young boy, I had a vision of Nigeria. I grew up in my father’s house in Abeokuta, a storey building with 16 steps which today is the first family heritage museum in Abeokuta.”
The cleric who said he had once hawked to support his mother said his poor family background pushed him to “develop the required capacity to lead Nigeria.”
Pastor Bakare’s declaration comes the same day Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, declared his intention to contest in 2023.
His declaration was at a thanksgiving organized by the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressive Congress.
