A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to announce the emergence of Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed as the party’s new Acting National Chairman.
This was contained in a statement signed by the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
According to him, the decision was reached at a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) which held on the 1st of November, 2025
Mohammed, who currently serves as the Vice Chairman (North Central), was appointed in line with the provisions of the PDP constitution to replace the suspended National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum.
The statement urged urged INEC to take necessary steps to recognise Mohammed in his new role, noting that the appointment was made in accordance with party rules.
“After a meeting of the PDP NWC heid on November 1st 2025 it was resolved among other issues that Hon Abdulrahman Mohammed, the Vice Chairman North Central, in line with the Constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been appointed as the Acting National Chaiman to replace the suspended National Chairman Amb Umar Iliya Damagum.
“This appointment is in accordance with the party’s constitution and we kindly request that all necessary steps be taken to recognize him in his new capacity.
“We would appreciate your prompt attention and response to this decision.” The statement read.
NPO Reports recalls that the Samuel Anyawu-led faction of the party had on the 1st of November, 2025, announced the suspension of the party’s substantial National Chairman, Umar Damagum.
