As Expelled PDP Secretary, Others
- Safiu Kehinde
The expelled National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Samuel Anyanwu, has allayed concern of the imminent clash in the scheduled meetings of his faction and the Kabiru Turaki-led new national leaders of the party.
NPO Reported that Turaki, who emerged as the new National Chairman of the PDP during the party’s National Convention held on Saturday in Ibadan, had yesterday announced plan to hold the inaugural National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
Prior to Turaki’s announcement of the meeting, the Anyanwu-led faction had also announced the scheduled emergency Board of Trustees (BoT) and NEC meetings at the Wadata Plaza which is currently occupied by the expelled faction.
Ahead of the meetings by both factions, the PDP secretariat had on Tuesday morning seen the heavy deployment of security personnel.
Meanwhile, Anyanwu earlier arrived at the Wadata Plaza alongside other members of his faction.
Addressing newsmen following his arrival, the expelled PDP National Secretary, reaffirmed that the convention thar produced Turaki remains unrecognised.
He vowed to treat the PDP National Chairman as an intruder if he shows up.
“There is no convention. The Chairman of the so-called Organising Committee of the Convention, His Excellency Ahmed Fintiri, walked out of the place because there was a court judgement and INEC was not there.
“Why are they showing up? He should go INEC. Is his name in INEC as Chairman?
“If he comes in here, he is an intruder.
“We have the Acting National Chairman who is the formerly the National Vice Chairman North Central, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed.” Anyanwu said.
He described his expulsion as laughable, adding that the convention was nothing other than a Christmas carol.
Anyanwu reiterated that he remains the PDP National Secretary, stressing that no convention can be held without his input.
“This laughable because there is no convention in Ibadan.
“What makes a convention, ones, as the National Secretary of the party, in our constitution is very clear, 36e.
“That for every convention, the National Secretary will stir the affairs of the convention.
“Two, every communication from the convention and NEC Meeting to to be communicated to other members of the party by my office.
“Three, there should be a 21 days communication to INEC that we are going to hold a convention. No such letter was communicated to INEC. And of course that is why you didn’t see INEC there.
“Outside the court’s judgement that says we should not hold, as a law abiding party, we are led by the rule of law. So, we decided that we shouldn’t hold the convention.” He added.
