The Osun State Police Command has arraigned a 49-year-old woman, Bunmi Toyin, before an Osogbo magistrate’s court over an alleged N4.1 million travel visa fraud.
The Police Prosecutor, Akintunde Jacob, told the court that the defendant allegedly defrauded her victims—Oke Olubunmi, Taliat Musa and Babatunde Mojisola—under the pretext of processing travel visas for them.
According to Jacob, the offence was committed in 2024, adding that the defendant had been on the run until she was recently apprehended through the tracking of her National Identification Number (NIN).
He noted that the offence contravened Sections 243 and 419 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
The defence counsel, Tunbosun Oladipupo, appealed for bail, arguing that his client had spent more than eight days in police custody, which infringed on her fundamental human rights.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs Oyindamola Daramola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum.
She stipulated that one of the sureties must be a landlord or business owner willing to deposit a bond of N500,000 and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The magistrate added that the second surety must be a government employee with evidence of tax payment and must also reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned to Aug. 11 for hearing.
