The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a six-member suspected robbery syndicate operating within Ibadan metropolis.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka.
According to Olayinka, the operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit received information about a gang of suspected armed robbers who specialize in using tricycles to dispossess unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables.
The syndicate comprising of five men and a lady were apprehended at a hotel in Ibadan in a well-cordinated sting operation.
“The suspects were reported to be hibernating at a hotel located in the 7UP/Academy area of Ibadan.
“Acting swiftly on the intelligence received, the operatives launched a well-coordinated sting operation and stormed the location, leading to the arrest of six suspects” The police spokesperson said.
The arrested individuals include 21-year-old Kelvin Daniel (male), 25-year-old Idris Ramon (male), and 35-year-old Christopher Solomon (male).
Others include 21-year-old Mohamed Telim (male), 30-year-old Taored Aderibigbe (male), and 27-year-old Adekunle Tolani (female).
Following the arrest, the following exhibits were recovered from the suspects: 1) different mobile phones, one Opay ATM card, one National Identification Number (NIN) card, and one tricycle with registration number OYO SHK 508 QP, identified as the operational vehicle used by the syndicate.
Preliminary investigation, according to Ayanlade, further reveals that the suspects have confessed to being members of a criminal syndicate responsible for terrorizing residents of Ibadan metropolis.
Consequently, the Command commended members of the public for their continued cooperation and timely provision of credible intelligence, which greatly contributed to the success of this operation.
Ayanlade held that the development underscored the critical role of community partnership in policing, stressing that the Command encourages residents to sustain this support by promptly sharing useful information that can aid in crime prevention and detection.
