The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old woman, Aisha Hassan, over alleged murder of her 97-year-old grandmother, Hajiya Ummukhulsum in Daura Local Government Area of the state.
Aisha was alleged to have struck Ummukhulsum on the head with a wooden chair.
The incident, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, occurred on June 12 at about 7p.m. when the suspect allegedly had a misunderstanding with her paternal grandmother.
Sadiq-Aliyu said the matter was reported to the Sabon Garin Daura Police Station by the suspect’s father, Muktar Muhammad-Hassan, on the same day.
According to police spokesperson, operatives immediately visited the scene and found the victim unconscious in a pool of blood.
“The victim was rushed to a hospital but was later confirmed dead by the doctor on duty,” he said.
The police spokesman said the suspect was arrested during the investigation and allegedly confessed to committing the offence.
He added that the suspect remained in police custody and would be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation.
According to him, further developments on the case would be communicated in due course.
