The police in Delta state have arrested 4 young persons who are into collecting ransoms on behalf of kidnappers.
According to the police spokesman Bright Edafe, kidnappers pay ransoms into the accounts of the four young men who in turn take 15% commission and remit the balance to the kidnappers.
Chimerije Joshua, from Ebonyi state, Eze Onyekachi from Enugu, Ezemama Maxwell Nnadzie from Enugu and Emmanuel Otinwo from Ebonyi state were arrested based on intelligence.
The four who were paraded at the headquarters of the Delta command, confessed to running a syndicate which specialises in taking money for kidnappers.
They also said they are currently building a website for cryptocurrency fraud.
One of the suspects said he had collected N3.6m, N4.3m while the third one was N200 which were all paid into his account.
“The Suspects were receiving kidnapping ransom money with their accounts, taking 15% and withdrawing the balance 85% via Pos and giving to the kidnappers in cash. They also stated that they were using the proceeds to build a crypto website for Internet fraud,” Edafe said in his post.
