The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed the case filed against popular Lagos clergyman, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, over viral video showing him holding a gun-like object and pointed it at a content creator who spotted his car.
NPO Reported that the House on the Rock Church’s Senior Pastor had in June come under the public spotlight after the video of him allegedly pointing a weapon suspected to be a gun at a car spotter went viral.
As captured in the video, the clergyman and convener of the annual Experience Concert was seen chastising the content creator who spotted his car.
Rolling down his car window, Adefarasin inaudibly challenged the car spotter who apologized immediately.
But just as he drove off, the video captured him pointing gun-like object towards the content creator.
While Adefarasin had denied pointing a gun at the content creator, the House on the Rock Senior Pastor further turned himself in at the Police Headquarters in Ikeja for interrogation over the incident.
The Police, in an update of the interrogation, confirmed that the object was not a lethal weapon or firearm but a stun gun which is a prohibited anti-riot equipment.
Having concluded its investigation, the Lagos Police Command, in a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, cleared the clergyman, stressing that there are no sufficient grounds to proceed with the matter.
The Command reiterated that the object seen with Adefarasin was a stun gun as it discontinued the case.
The statement read; “Following the incident, wherein Pastor Paul Adefarasin turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, in connection with a viral video showing him holding a gun-like object, the Lagos State Police Command wishes to provide a further update on the matter.
