The Police on Sunday expressed dismay over the massive recirculation of a horrific video showing scenes of kidnappers’ den and killing of many victims for money rituals in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
The social media had in the last 24 hours been awash with videos of the scene which was discovered in 2015 in the Soka, off the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the state capital.
The video showed scary scenes of human parts of people who had been victims of kidnapping and consequently killed for ritual purposes and organ harvesting reasons.
In a statement signed by Adewale Osifeso, spokesman of the Oyo Command, the police said it is irresponsible to caution fresh tension in the society with the circulation of videos of an incident that happened a decade ago.
The command said, “The Oyo State Police Command wishes to clarify the misinformation circulating on social media regarding the resurgence of a decade-old footage displaying gory details of human remains discovered at an abandoned warehouse within the Soka Area under Ibadan North East Local Government. The treated footage, which captured a series of unfortunate incidents at the time, led to escalated investigations, resulting in a deliberate upgrade of the State’s security architecture. Following this, the Oyo State Police Command, in conjunction with its sister services and neighboring commands, has adopted impregnable security measures to prevent a recurrence of the dark past.”
