The Nigeria Police Force has subtly hinted of its desire to work with illegal fabricators of all kinds of arms and ammunition in Nigeria.
Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi in a series of post on his Official X handle gave the hint after the Police paraded some suspects for gun-running in Abuja on Wednesday.
Adejobi informed that 10 suspects were nabbed for trans-border gunrunning and illegal fabrication of firearms.
The police spokesman said two Ak-47 rifle, nine automatic pistols and 1,800 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the suspects.
He added that the suspects were arrested following intelligence that a syndicate of trans-border gun-runners were operating from Plateau to other parts of the country.
Adejobi said the suspects were also involved in the supply of arms and ammunition to criminal elements beyond the borders of the country.
“During investigation, it came to light that one of the suspect is a transborder arms and ammunition supplier based in Cross River.
“He usually gets supplies of AK47 rifles, ammunition, and rocket launchers from four other suspects, based in Plateau, who in turn, supply same to some rebels and other criminal elements in a neighboring country.
“One of the suspects has confessed to have sold four Ak-47 rifles belonging to his late father who was a police officer, instead of handing them over to legal authorities.
The suspects having confessed that some of the seized ammunition were manufactured by him probably informed the hint by the police,
Adejobi wrote. “All these pistols were locally fabricated in the factory in jos. The guys are talented. We need to work on them, for our good.”,
