The Lagos State Police Command has ordered an investigation into the harassment meted out on a motorist by unidentified police officers in the state.
In an X post by one Adetola Adeniyi, @adetolaadeniyi_, his vehicle made a U-turn at Isola roundabout, in front of LASPOTECH when they were stopped by some police officers.
He stated that the police officers requested for the car documents which was provided.
However, the officers informed them that they were not allowed to make the U-turn at that particular spot and demanded 50k as a penalty.
According to Adeniyi, he explained that there were no signs indicating such restrictions, but they remained adamant which resulted in the police officers making arrests.
“As the conversation continued, they started arresting other people and demanding money.
“The situation became chaotic, and they even threatened to shoot us. It is disheartening that police officers would resort to such extreme measures when dealing with a traffic violation.
“Is this how the police force operates now? To also bring to notice none of the officers put on name tags for proper identification.
It’s alarming to witness members of @PoliceNG threatening to harm innocent civilians with firearms.”
