The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected cultists in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this to journalists on Tuesday in Warri.
Edafe said the suspects were arrested on Sunday by operatives attached to the Oghara Police Division during a surveillance patrol.
According to him, the officers intercepted a Lexus RX330 SUV conveying the suspects and conducted a search on the vehicle.
Edafe disclosed that one locally made cut-to-size gun and a live cartridge were recovered during the operation.
“The police team was on a surveillance patrol when they intercepted a Lexus RX330 SUV conveying the suspects.
“The four occupants were subjected to a search during which one locally made cut-to-size gun and one live cartridge were recovered from the vehicle,” he said.
Edafe said the suspects are in police custody, adding that investigations are ongoing.
He said the Commissioner of Police in Delta, Mr Yemi Oyeniyi, had reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks across the state.
According to him, the commissioner also reiterated the command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-led and proactive policing operations to combat cultism and curb the proliferation of illegal firearms.
Edafe urged members of the public to continue supporting the police by providing timely, credible and actionable information.
“The command remains relentless in its efforts to safeguard lives and property throughout the state,” he said.
