The Nigeria Police Force has come under criticism following reports that some of its officers are now snatching Meta smart glasses and extorting money from some citizens.
In a recent video posted on X by popular Twitter influencer, @dammiedammie35, on Friday, an unidentified citizen was seen arranging his licenses to present to the police officer, however, on sighting his glasses, the officer attempted to snatch it off his face.
The post also disclosed that the citizen was extorted of N200,000 before he was released.
“Apparently, some Nigerian policemen are now snatching the glasses from people’s faces! What can be done about this please?
“And they collected 200k from him before they could let him go too !!!” He wrote.
NPO Reports recalls that Human Rights Activist and politician, Omoyele Sowore, had also reported on the 21st of July, during a peaceful police protest at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, that a police officer identified as Aku Victor Chiemerie, forcefully snatched his AI-powered Ray-Ban Meta glasses.
The act which was also caught on video trended with many Nigerians and protesters demanding the restitution of the glasses.
NPO reports that the Meta Smart glasses is a smart eyewear that allow users to capture photos and videos, play music, take calls, and also livestream directly to social media platforms.
The glasses are equipped with tiny cameras and speakers, making them one of the newest innovations in wearable technology.
