Veteran journalist and former press secretary to past Oyo State governors, Chief Lekan Alabi, is dead.
Alabi, the Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, died in Lagos on Saturday morning at the age of 76.
His death was confirmed in a statement issued by Adeola Oloko, the media aide to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The statement read, “The veteran journalist and multiple press secretary to former Oyo State governors, Lekan Alabi, is dead.”
The Veteran who was born on October 27, 1950, built an illustrious career that spanned journalism, broadcasting, public relations and public service.
Alabi began his journalism career with the defunct Sketch newspaper before joining the Western Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation (WNBC), which later became the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Ibadan.
He subsequently joined Odu’a Investment Company Limited as Public Relations Manager and later rose to become the company’s Corporate Affairs Manager, a position he held for many years.
Throughout his distinguished career, Alabi had the rare privilege of serving as Chief Press Secretary to four governors of the old Oyo State, where he played a significant role in government communication and public information management.
His contributions to journalism, public relations and governance earned him widespread respect within and beyond Oyo State.
The statement also revealed that he would be buried tomorrow in accordance with Islamic rites.
