A pregnant woman and three others have been feared dead as operatives attached to the Anambra State local vigilante group, Ocha Brigade, allegedly opened fire on traders in Onitsha market.
This was disclosed in series of posts shared on X on Tuesday.
According to reports, the incident occurred along Bright Street, opposite a Frist Bank branch office located within the market.
The Ocha Brigade squad were alleged to have stormed the market to seize traders’ goods.
Some of the traders reportedly challenged the security operatives who in reaction opened fire at the unarmed traders.
Four people, including the pregnant woman were caught in the open fire.
The incident sparked outrage in the market as a vehicle was set ablaze by angry mob in the market.
A video shared on X showed trail of blood of one of the victims at the scene of the incident.
Another video however showed an unconscious victim lying in a vehicle with onlookers claiming she is still alive.
However, the police are yet to issue an official statement confirming the incident as well the total number of victims as at the time of filing this report.
