The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Wednesday alleged that organisers and representatives of the Take-it-Back Movement have failed to provide the necessary information demanded from them to allow for proper planning and coverage of the rallies.
The IGP in a statement signed personally said the inability of the police to secure the names, addressed of organisers and the venues they intend to use for the protests has compelled his office to place on red alert, all police formations in the country.
According to him, all police formations have been directed to protect citizens, businesses and national infrastructure.
Egbetokun said intelligence at the disposal of the police showed that the protests are aimed at unleashing mayhem on Nigerians, saying “No responsible law enforcement agency in any part of the civilized world” will allow that.
He said in line with police act, he would still demand for the details about the protest as earlier demanded.
