Nigerian private broadcast station, Arise TV, has on Tuesday paid condolence visit to the family of late journalist and News Anchor of the station, Somtochukwu Maduagwu.
NPO Reported the demise of Maduagwu who tragically passed away on Monday following robbery attack at her residence in Katampe area of Abuja.
As against initial report of being shot by the armed robbers, the deceased media personality, according to her college, Ojinika Okpe, allegedly jumped out of her window in an attempt to escape.
Speaking on the Arise TV’s Morning Show yesterday, Ojinika disclosed that Maduagwu died at the hospital where she rushed to but rejected.
“I reached out to our correspondent in Abuja, who detailed the circumstances surrounding her death,
“She jumped down from her home when she heard about 14 armed robbers came to her home. She did not die on the spot. She went to the hospital, and she was rejected. Her life could have been saved, but the hospital rejected her.” She said.
In the wake of the incident, Arise TV’s management led by the Deputy Managing Director, Mr. Bayo Awosemo, Director of News, Sumner Sambo, and Director of Corporate Services, Christopher Isiguzo, paid a condolence visit to Maduagwu’s parent in Port Harcourt.
The station, in a post on X handle, shared pictures of the delegation with the family.
However, the picture of the late journalist’s grieving parents had sparked mixed reactions from netizens.
Aggrieved parents of the late media personality
While some mourned the late journalist, others expressed outrage over the display of the parent’s pictures which they deemed inappropriate.
They called for its removal, stressing on the need for the aggrieved family’s privacy.
“Getting grieving parents/family members to stand for photo ONE DAY after they lost their 29-year-old daughter is a very terrible idea. Showing their faces on Twitter is sickening. Did you go there to mourn or to do a photo op?”@tosin_olaluwoye
“This is foolish and distastefully low. Low. We have no need to see her grieving parents. Who signed off on this? There’s a way she’s supposed to be remembered, keep it at that. Slide off these unnecessary theatrics and TAKE HER PARENTS OFF HERE.”@UnkleAyo
“If I were a brother to the deceased and I saw a photographer taking pictures of them in this state, all in the name of paying condolences. Be rest assured that you will need to buy a new camera when you leave, there is no way you fixing the damage.”@Bayology
“The fact that this is still up after all the backlash says a lot. Rufai Oseini my guy would have criticized this move if it was another platform that did it.”@Sireadell
“WE SHOULD NEVER SEE THE PICTURES OF HER GRIEVING PARENTS. WHO APPROVED THE POSTING OF THIS PICTURES??? THIS IS MADNESS”@AimThaMachine_
“What a loss… you didn’t have to show her parents or family members though!”@PoloMM7
“Oh chimo…. This is too painful .. May Somtochukwu’s soul rest in peace. God be with her family”@LexieBeautiful_
“can we all come together to report this tweet until they take it down”@lifeisyolo__
“Oooh Arise News! Everything is just another showoffff for them, why the blatant camera hypocrisy on the grieving parents faces?”@ZITASES
“For shoving cameras in the faces of grieving parents, every insensitivity & callousness you have sown, you will reap in abundant measures. Burying a child is the worst evil to befall a parent. Alas, here we are. As you have prioritized optics over empathy, you will reap accordingly”@thisibi
