The United States Embassy in Abuja has announced the closure of its Visa appointments at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This was made known in a statement issued on the embassy’s official X handle on Thursday.
The development is coming hours after the US Department of States approved the departure of the non-emergency staff from the Nigerian capital city over security concern.
NPO Reported that the US Government had in a travel advisory issued to the embassy declared several states across the country, specifically in the South-East, South-South, and the Northern regions, unsafe.
It highlighted the rate of crimes, kidnapping, and terrorism in the regions as reason behind its decision.
Meanwhile, the US Embassy in the statement issued yesterday urged applicants to check their email for details on their rescheduled appointments.
It noted that only American citizen services are available in emergencies and by appointment at the embassy.
However, the US Lagos Consulate General remains open and fully operational.
