Varied reactions have trailed the advice offered by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu asking Nigerian women to embark small businesses such as selling beans cakes, roasted corns and allied petty commercial enterprises.
Mrs Tinubu had said that the token being given to women in various sectors are not loans but grants to enable them open up on small businesses that can sustain themselves.
The first lady made this known while newsmen following a public engagement on Thursday.
According to her, businesses like akara making, roasted corn, and kuli-kuli production require relatively small capital, making them accessible opportunities for individuals seeking to start a means of livelihood.
“Akara business doesn’t take a lot of money. To start a roasted corn business or somebody even said kuli-kuli doesn’t take much,” she said.
“We didn’t give them a loan, we gave it to them as a grant,” Tinubu added.
This had sparked mixed reactions from netizens who slammed the first lady over the advice.
