Mixed reactions have trailed a video of schoolteachers destroying phones seized from students.
As captured in the now viral video shared on X on Wednesday, the teachers of the yet-to-be identified secondary school brought out the seized phones before the students on the assembly ground.
One of the school staff would proceed with the public destruction of the phones as he smashed hammer on screen of the gadgets.
The phones appeared to have been seized from the school’s senior students preparing for the West African Secondary School Certification Examination (WASSCE) as the staff who recorded the video claimed it distracts the students during their preparation for the examination.
“Use of phone is a distraction to WAEC students. Highly prohibited” The staff wrote in a caption attached to the video.
While the usage of phone by students during school hours is widely prohibited across several Nigerian secondary schools, the public destruction of the mobile gadgets had however sparked mixed reactions from netizens.
Some netizens commended the school management for confiscating the phones but condemned their destruction.
